AUTHORS NOTES

Coach Sam Obafemi : .

Circa February 2014, I had just published my very popular book -My Valleys. It was pre-ordered by so many people. One of them was a fellow called Fola Folagbade, who was then Cherished Pholar and operated a graphics design and identity design brand called Pholar Studios. He asked if the book could be delivered to his then-girlfriend, Nike Folagbade who was the person I was close to. I did not even know they were dating. I knew Nike but I did not know Fola. The book was sent to the South-East where she was serving as a corper.

Sometime later that year, Fola who must have travelled to see Nike, sent me a BBM message asking if he could engage me about My Valleys. He was taking a road trip to Kaduna and wanted to keep his company reading the book and asking me the story behind the experiences. I obliged because of Nike.

Fola got to Kaduna late at night and sent me a message saying,

“Sir, you literally travelled with me today and kept me company. It made my trip enjoyable and I want to give you a gift.” I said, “Oh, okay. Thank you.”

Then he goes, “I want to redesign your logo as my appreciation.”

Then, I was using a prior SO logo done for me for free by Adetoye Adeyanju (my secondary school head boy and now an architect). I obliged Fola.

Around 2 am, Fola sent me the design (in 2014) and we never tweaked it even once. That “first touch” was the ultimate touch.

This book is not an attempt to convince you that you need a mentor, no, it’s not.

This is our way of giving back, of blessing lives with the true story of our mentee-mentor relationship which has unlocked many greater doors and like a ripple effect, a bonfire, spread beyond us to many others who have been directly or indirectly impacted by our voyage.  It is a story of love, honour, and responsibility and how you can begin today, to rewrite your story and reinvent yourself IF you are hungry for more if you desire earnestly to align with your higher part IF you would rather take the lift than the rigorous and exhausting staircase to become.

You will never remain the same after encountering the deep truths we generously shared, without holding back.  This is our story, but beyond it being about us, it is even more about you and how you can move from one point to the next, accessing the help and support you will need. It is about what you have to do to access exponential growth.

No, YOU are not enough!

The good decision you made was buying this book if you bought the copy in your hand right now.

The better decision is to read it right now.

The best decision is to keep your notepad and pen with you as you begin and implement every lesson.

It is time to reinvent yourself.

It is time to position for much more.

It is time to honour your higher calling.

It is time to light your bonfire, you have played solo for too long.

To the brightness of your light,

 Cheers.

I met coach Sam in the year 2014, and at this point, I was indecisive about what next or how next to move to the next phase. Yes, I have started working on my craft which is graphics design. I mean, I had started training myself -watching YouTube and all of that. But before then, I had no roadmap. Everything was still foggy and I was still in paid employment, then encountered his book -My Valleys.

I read the book and the book was just everything I needed at that moment. He talked about how he transitioned from paid employment to pursue his passion and connect with his higher part.  He shared about his relocation from Lagos to Abuja among many other things. I learnt so much from that book, that I wanted to be closer to the author.
